1.
Two Flames 02:21
two flames of the candle / how you flirt / with one another / begetting dance / you fill the whole hall / just you two / duex en vue / et vous, et vous / of fluttering notes of song / synchronize / desynchronize / lock eyes / unlock eyes / reprise / don’t reprise / you ride / through night / in moon / moon’s wake of light / two flames of the candle / how you flirt / with one another / begetting dance
2.
years keep on passing / i am still trying / to write the same song / for you / i want you to like it / there are three words / i could say to you / and i wouldn’t be lying / but it feels to quick / for me to be deciding / so sail away sweetheart / be of dusk / the empty space you leave will be / more than enough / to remind me / of lullabies lost / my feet pound the pavement / passing miles in hopes that i can fix this / not sure of giving up or giving in / you have been waiting / i never asked / and now you’re out of patience / but there’s songs still / and we have not yet finished / so sail away sweetheart / be of dusk / the empty space you leave will be / more than enough / to remind me / of lullabies lost
3.
Sunshine 03:17
there’s nothing you can do / but lie awake in wonder / of what you’re going through / now go back to bed / forget all you said / be alone / bring me home sunshine / we will all heal in your light / bring me home sunshine / did ya know you’re still my darling / there’s nothing you can do / but be like these leaves / surrender to this autumn mood / find your way through the wood / i knew you could / find home / and be alone / bring me home sunshine / we will all heal in your light / bring me home sunshine / did ya know you’re still my darling
4.
Ruin 03:07
there is a rock in my stomach / the weight of your words / cage around my lungs and / the heart is burst / i held you so gentle and I quenched your thirst / are you proud you broke down and struck me first / goin’ back to my mother to plant what remains / i’ve nothing left for this / so i’m waiting for the rain / all these fish and stars and marble arches / dying breaths and hallelujahs / we are ruins, we are waiting for the rain / hands that mold my edges / ‘til i am not mine / soil is rich and better worth my while / found myself alone / standing in a ruin / hollowed out and opened up / with nothing left to lose / i’m going back to my mother to plant what remains / i’ve nothing left for this so i’m waiting for the rain / all these fish and stars and marble arches / dying breaths and hallelujahs / we are ruins, we are waiting for the rain
5.
Volatile 01:56
volatile / i am volatile / these are the words you wrote / so am i just an experiment / am i so chemically unsound / you might not want to find out / fly away / will you fly away / to find the part of your heart / that you gave to some other soul / how can i ever know if i can trust my love again / open door / keeping open doors / to keep up the past in case / you decide on another life / perhaps i’ll always have a door your peek through / to see his eyes
6.
Reykjavík 02:53
i wait for you / don’t know that i want to but i do / hope that you find your way back through / the mist that you fell into / i wait to see the way that the wind will shape me / learn to live in the space between / listening and calling / what happens to the ones the sun forgets / what happens at the edge of this / does it matter if you get any closer to what it is you’ve already missed / i wait for you / i wait for you / i wait for you / i wait for you
7.
Canopy 04:21
stood at the edge of a great north lake / knew in my toes that i came too late / heard your voice in the turn of leaves / wondered if the world still made you think of me / there’s a nip in the air as the seasons lean to hear / they were years, they were years, they were years, they were years / i will let weeds grow into a canopy / i will crawl into earth and let her cradle me
8.
leave these letters / of my life / in their small print / and say goodbye / love you dearly / mother, sons / husband, daughter / sis and brothers, all / time is on my mind / time is on my mind / sneak and speed on by / oh time is on my mind / where have ya gone, dear mom / time is on my mind / i’ll be with you / don’t you fret / hold you in / my beast, my chest / breathe my loved ones / don’t asphyxiate / let me go now / as i become a wave / time is on my mind / time is on my mind / sneak and speed on by / oh time is on my mind / where have ya gone, dear mom / time is on my mind / come wind / come blow me / come earth / come sew me / come light / come grow me / here i come / now we become one
9.
Garden Well 03:27
when we were both young we fell / into grandma’s garden well / we played and ran in open skies / morning dances with dragon flies / and from the well / we again were born / in wonder of / the wings we’d grown / we flew and landed on the top / of lily pads to chat and hop / with toads and turtles and river friends / they showed us all around the bends / and we were lighter then / we had wings / and we made friends / in simple terms we came to know / ourselves as children / of gardens, snow and cherry trees / we climbed and loved / we sang perched with the singing dove / in winter months we embraced the cold / we gathered wool and fallen oak / and from the well / we again were born / in wonder of / the wings we’d grown
10.
tell me once / tell me twice / and three times i forgot / know that it ain’t good for you / but can’t seem to keep my paws off / take my hand / turn to tread / straight through the heart of the dark wood / but there are beasts between these trees / i am no less than the least of these / love, you are headed straight for heartbreak / love, these are warnings you should take / king to beggar / strong to straggler / hard to soft / free to lost / hopeful to hopeless / barefoot to soulless / the night is dark / and you should know this / love, you are headed straight for heartbreak / love, these are warnings you should take
11.
How Far 04:54
how far / how far must I go / to learn / to learn what I already know / how far / how far does patience wait / i’m afraid / that yours will swallow me whole / hold on, hold on / to those things you love / in love in love / there’s never time enough / hold on hold on / how do we know it’s done / cannot cannot / choose one choose one / do you know / do you know how the snowflakes fall / to lie in wait / to dissolve into thaw / you see / you see me melt into the day / and fight / fight through my teeth / fight for that which remains / hold on hold on / to those things you love / in love in love / there’s never time enough / hold on hold on / how do we know it’s done / cannot cannot / choose one choose one

about

In many ways, How Far is an album born out of a peculiar alignment of certain stars. None of which would have been possible without the love and support of our families and friends. Gratitude is not a big enough word, but Love is – and we are humbled by it.

We offer a huge thanks to Leo, Pat and Dave for lending their time and talents to the writing and recording of How Far. Additional thanks to Jaime Hanson for his wisdom and get-‘er-done attitude; to Daniel Miller for the expanding soundscapes; to Peter Jamus for the torches the photos; and to Sarah, the wee Aussie, for her vocal chords and friendship along the journey. A hearty shout-out to the Watson Foundation and to the incredible communities in Minneapolis, MN; Eau Claire, WI; and Colorado that continue to inspire and push us to work harder. Thanks to the friends who make space on their floors and are our home on the road. Thank you to the seasons of the north and the muses of Lake Kimble. Finally, thank you for supporting independent artists like us. Thank you, thank you, thank you for listening.
